Change Folder Icons allows you to do right what its name says. If you want to have custom icons for any of your folders, the application can change them for you. It works by creating a special "Desktop.ini" file that contains a link to the new icon. This is a system file which is recognized by all versions of Windows that are newer than Windows 95.
Windows XP supports changing the default folder icon by default. You just need to go to the View menu in Windows Explorer and choose to "Customize this folder". Change Folder Icons offers this functionality as well as an icon search feature. You can search through your computer for icons and then associate them to a folder.
The icon search can be stopped or paused whenever you want to. The results of the search are displayed in real-time on a special panel. You can view icons of all sizes, starting from 16x16 pixels and up to 256x256 pixels.
